A Heart To Heart Conversation About Family-First Fitness: The “First 50” Program

(Note #1: I HIGHLY recommend that you carefully read ALL of this.)

(Note #2: This post isn’t a “public post” and I really don’t want the rest of the internet to see this. So I’d be super grateful and relieved if you didn’t share this post on twitter or your blog.) Thanks!

Hi, this is Dustin and I’m hoping you have time today for a heart-to‐heart conversation. I think it’s time. In fact, it might be overdue.

I’m talking about a GOOD heart-to‐heart (NOT the kind of heart-to‐heart people have before they breakup or something. . . this is the opposite of that kind of conversation).

Something Great Has Been Brewing (But Brewing Nonetheless)

I’ve been working with busy couples and families for over 6 years . . .

And even though I’ve been asked time and time again (I’m asked more each year) to create a comprehensive fitness solution that deals with all of the very real and unique challenges that busy families face, I haven’t yet.

I’ve been hesitant for a long time.

Back in the day, I thought I didn’t have time, or that I was too busy with my clients, and at times I small-mindedly believed that I shouldn’t attempt such an undertaking simply because no one else has addressed it head-on before.

So one day I asked you if you’d be interested in a family-first fitness solution for the long-term.

And (lo and behold) between email, blog comments, etc. I’ve received hundreds of responses from people as close as my city and as far as Asia!

Every time I’ve written a blog post about the new fitness solution (that we’re building TOGETHER), I’ve received dozens and dozens of comments.

I thought I was hallucinating. I thought I was dreaming. I just didn’t anticipate a response like this.

But what surprised me the most was how much your responses impact me on a personal level.

I just didn’t anticipate that all this would have a deep and profound impact on me.

Your surge of support was encouraging and exciting and unreal and inspiring and overwhelming and humbling and scary.

And for the first time in a very long time, I got REALLY excited about something new.

But in the midst of the range of emotions WE WERE ALL feeling about this, I never felt intimidated.

Back when the hundreds upon hundreds of responses started coming in, I never felt intimidated.

How I Came To Feel Intimidated

A few weeks ago I asked everyone interested in this new fitness solution to fill out a survey.

Again, you sent in hundreds of detailed, lengthy, thoughtful, amazing responses.

And it was looking at these survey responses that made me intimidated. Looking at these responses helped me realize the immensity of what we’re about to do. I got intimidated because nothing like what we’re about to do exists (for busy couples and families).

There is no rulebook, etc.

In your survey responses, you told me what you wanted in an exercise, nutrition, time management, motivation and LIFE training program. You said you wanted a real, amazing community. You wanted to be part of a movement that poured out motivation and support.  You wanted simple and effective workouts, realistic meal plans, time management help, lots of motivation, group coaching calls, family activities, challenges, and so many more great and helpful things.

AND I DON’T BLAME YOU. I think you need these things too.

But it hit me that this isn’t going to be a little side project (although it will be really fun). With the hundreds upon hundreds of responses I’ve been getting, it hit me that this is going to be so much bigger than I had originally imagined.

I realized that, if this is going to really, REALLY work, that if this is going to be more more than a fun project to just think about and get excited about . . .

. . . that I’m going to need to cancel some plans, re‐organize my schedule, and stop doing client consultations for a few months.

It also hit me that my reputation will be on the line in a much bigger way than it has before. And that I’m going to need to work with other professionals to make this work the way we all expect it to.  I’ve already reached out to a TOP family-friendly nutritionist to help with that side of the training.

It also hit me that, with technology costs and the need for outside help, and the time required to create a curriculum and one-of-a-kind community from scratch, this program won’t be dirt cheap to run or attend.

This will be an undertaking for both of us because we’re not just talking about a download that you never use or some Q & A sessions. We’re talking about a comprehensive all-inclusive training program and support community.

What It All Comes Down To . . .

I am 100% committed when it comes to this work.

It’s very important to me that our clients get results and that the individuals and families that Tony and I work with get the very best outcomes possible (and that they love their life more as a result).

If I create a family-first fitness program, I just cannot go halfway with this. It’s “all the way or not at all.”

I want this program to be the first and the highest quality training program out there.

Hands down.

Here’s The Part Where We Have A Heart-to‐Heart

Learning how to make fitness a lifestyle for yourself and your family will be a learning process for you (you will be in the VERY FIRST group).

But this training program will be a learning process for me and Tony as well.

We will need to hone in on what is most useful to you and how to best help and mentor you (so that you feel equipped to make this the time that fitness actually sticks, and handle ANY situation that comes your way and tries to hold you back as you make fitness a permanent part of your family’s life).

The Very First Group (Exciting)

When the community and training program’s doors OFFICIALLY open, I want us to have all the kinks worked out.

I want to ensure that our training has been carefully crafted from the ground up to meet your needs, that our online learning environment works without a hitch (and that our online community is already populated with good content and case studies from your success), that the conference call service we use for question and answer sessions meets any needs that might crop up. And on and on and on.

When Fit Nation (the tentative name of this entirely new approach to fitness) officially opens, I want to make sure that everything works as well as possible.

How You Can Benefit From This

I am considering offering an initial limited group of 50 people access to the Fit Nation program/community for 50% off the eventual price.

These 50 individuals and families (the “first 50”) will be the first successful members and the founders of Fit Nation.

Here’s The Trade-off . . .

As members of the founding class (or the “First 50”), I’ll want extra feedback and participation from you. I want you to give me lots of input on the content and how it is delivered (live vs. recorded for example), what content you would like us to spend more or less time on, and let me know as soon as possible if there is an online technological problem (and then be patient with me as I work to get it fixed quickly).

As part of the “First 50,” I’ll want your thoughts on our online learning environment, I’ll want you to heavily use the online peer‐support forums and community and fill them with case studies, I’ll want you to fill out a few additional surveys, and serve in an advisory role to me and Tony as we work to make this the very best resource it can be for you and future members.

And In Exchange For This, You’ll Get 50% Off The Final Price

Oh yeah, you will also get special First 50 status which will come with its own perks, like discounts on future products and seminars, special access to us, recognition within the community and more.

Are You POTENTIALLY Interested In Becoming One Of The First 50?

At this point, I’m not looking for commitments (after all I haven’t even told you what the price will be nor have I decided it myself) . . .

. . . but if you’re *potentially* interested in becoming a First 50 member of the Fit Nation community and training program, then click this link to email me (or shoot a message to feedback@fitmarriage.com).  Let me know (1) that you’re interested, and (2) how much you think the program should cost when we officially open the doors (remember, you get 50% off of this eventual price).

If I decide to proceed with this First 50 program, then I’ll be sending you details in the next few days.

Stay tuned,

Dustin
